6-0 Defense: Basics
The 6-0 is the foundation of handball defense: six players in a line in front of the goal area, covering passing lines and forcing long shots. Every youth team should master it before moving to advanced systems.

Step by step
- Six defenders line up on the 6-meter line, shoulder to shoulder.
- Each defender covers the attacker in front of them; step out only when the ball comes to your side.
- Always keep sight of the pivot. Hand the pivot over to your neighbor; never let them get behind your back.
- Shift sideways as the ball moves; the whole line moves together.
Coaching points
- Communication first: the middle defender calls every shift.
- Arms up and active. Block passing lines, not just the shot.
- Never cross feet; small quick steps keep the line intact.
